Section functions and areas of work 

Seismology

• The section aims to produce and provide the public with expert advice on earthquakes and related events

• To produce and provide seismic data to/and exchange information with our clients:

  (a) Albuquerque Seismological Lab, and
  (b) National Earthquake Information Center
  

• To collaborate with Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO) in Vienna in monitoring of nuclear explosions in the region

• Archival of seismic data

• The sections also collaborates with the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) in Honolulu in Tsunami Watch and Warning

Geomagnetic

• Section exchanges information and data with international clients through Lester Tomlinson of Geoserve, Christchurch, New Zealand

• Carry out absolute observations

• Archival of geomagnetic data
